Cities as a Breeding Ground for Collective Delusions and Anti-Social Lifestyles

I grew up in a small, tight-knit community. This does not mean that you had no privacy or that you knew everybody living in it. Instead, it meant that you had a more immediate connection to reality. Almost everybody in the neighborhood was a productive member of society. Back in the days, banks just did not hand out enormous loans to anybody, so if you wanted to own a house, you needed to have steady income and had to save up money for years for the sizable down-payment. Those who owned the houses were the adults who managed to achieve some level of success. Their children were kept in line, and partly this was due by virtue of their environment. You did not see any graffiti, and there were no gangs of mischievous youth loitering around, and drug-dealing “youths”, a common sight in any larger Western city, were nowhere to be seen.

Still, some of the kids did perhaps not get as much guidance as they may have needed. This does not mean that they all fell through the cracks. Instead, some made a few dumb decisions and maybe wasted a few years of their life. Yet, sooner or later, most of them got back on track. I think a big reason for that was simply shame. If you were a parent and your kid fell clearly behind his peers, you would eventually have a word with him. Probably many such kids have heard variations of the speech given by the father of the main protagonist in the movie Dead Poets Society who wanted to pursue acting, admonishing the son that he has a duty to not waste his life on the arts as a consequence of everything the father sacrificed for him.

There were rare cases of kids who did not really make it. For instance, near my parents there is a house that is inhabited by a mother and her daughter. The man of the household died of a heart attack in his early 50s. As the house was paid off, the non-working mother was able to continue living in it, and the daughter is now in her 40s, and a spinster. When she was a teenager, she was rather vocal about her feminist convictions, so I guess she got what she wanted. There are other tragedies, though. We even had a village alcoholic back in the days, an older guy. I do not know what his story was, but I recall that his extended family, including his adult kids, took care of him, so you may have seen him sit outside the family home, slowly emptying a bottle of liquor as the day went on. Sure, he had serious problems, and it was a sad sight, but he was able to live out his life with a modicum of dignity compared to what the alternative might have been.

Once you remove the support structure of a tight-knit community, all hell breaks loose, though. Not only will the occasional misfit not get a helping hand to get up on his feet again. Instead, those people will quickly find peers who have made similarly poor lifestyle choices. As a consequence, they end up erecting their own little collective mental prison where their choices are vindicated by each other, and everybody else is simply wrong. In a city like Berlin, for instance, there are hundreds of thousands of people who live off welfare. In fact, there is an entire infrastructure for them, including dive bars were they can mingle and hook up.

The problem with those “alternative lifestyles” is that they are inherently parasitic. They are only viable because government is funding them via the welfare system. In a small community, shame would be an effective deterrent. Yet, if you live off welfare, hang out in bars or clubs that cater to your kind, and hook up with one single mother after another, you get plenty of affirmation for your lifestyle choices. You probably feel like the king of the world as you do not have to work, get free housing, pocket money for booze and drugs, and have women around to fuck; the younger ones can be pretty good-looking, if you are able to look past their countless tattoos.

When I was a kid, I watched a lot of animal documentaries with my father. I vaguely recall that the more developed mammals can show signs of abnormal behavior. This is expressed in anti-social behavior. For instance, chickens can go around pecking the freshly-laid eggs of other chickens, which is probably the animal equivalent of barren feminist telling young women not to get married or government pushing puberty blockers on kids. In short, animals that live in groups normally cooperate. If they do not do that, they may get banished or even killed as they endanger the survival of the group. Hens may peck a feminist hen to death. I witnessed this once in real life, to my amazement. The girl I was with at that time was shocked and confused by what she witnessed. I quipped that the hen was probably a real bitch and, as I learned later on, this is really what is going on. If a hen gets too uppity and causes trouble, the rooster may step in and hens sometimes join. I presume that those hens get a fair warning but if they do not change their revolutionary ways, they get taken out.

For some strange reason, human society does not work like that at all. Government treats our misfits and criminals as if they are saints. Criminals seem genuinely off-limits for law enforcement. Post a dank meme on the Internet and you will have the police kick in your door. Sell drugs to kids, rob a store or rape one of the natives, correct skin color assumed, and there will hardly be any consequences. Vandalism seems to be perfectly legal nowadays, too. You even have people who systematically vandalize the cities they live in and nothing ever happens to them. Look up footage of Detroit, for instance. Get footage from the current year and also footage from the 1950s or 1960s. Beautiful townhouses turned into crack dens. Affluent quarters are now dystopian hellholes. Yes, humans did that. You see this at a minor scale also in plenty of somewhat more civilized places. The picture below is one of my favorites. I took it myself in Berlin some time ago, in either the Kreuzberg or Prenzlauer Berg district, and in a residential street that was mostly gentrified already. Yet, when I encountered a run-down building in which the door was open as someone was moving out, I had to check it out and sneaked in. There were graffiti in the foyer. The pain on the ceiling was cracked. The stair railing had been vandalized.

Imagine waking up and finding this graffiti next to your apartment door. I suppose a less crazed feminist suggested to “practice capitalism” and “smash withcraft”, but this does not help society much either.

With some trepidation, I checked out the place some more, which is when I saw the anarcho-feminist message on the wall, right next to an apartment door. Well, what does this say about people who either vandalize the place they live in or vandalize the place someone else lives in? In the animal kingdom, we would quite literally tear them apart. Yet, for some reason we in the West reward those people lavishly with free housing, food, clothing, and pocket money on top. Society gains nothing by having such people around, or at least nothing positive, and all of this only happens because it is encouraged by a truly sick society. Yes, your taxes fund those lifestyles.

    1. I was not aware of this book but a while ago I watched one of his videos, which covered the phenomenon of witches. I found the argument he presented quite plausible, i.e. witches were simply unmarried older women for which society had no use. As those women did not have any purpose in life, they got crazy, but this also worked the other way round: Some were banned from towns and villages due to their anti-social behavior. As you wrote, he connects this to modern-day feminism where “strong and empowered women” no man wants to deal with are propped up by media. Back in the days, they had no support network and were simply kicked out.

    What strikes me is the combination of utter destructivity encapsulated in those four lines. And then again the combination of various categories.

    I’d say the weirdest aspect of the four is “witchcraft”. To become a real witch (you know, just like the ones the roman-latin church used to burn in former times) naturally you’d first have to leave your betrothed husband and become “a free, independent woman”. Once that feat has been accomplished you can set out to undermine the productive aspects of society (that’s not necessarily capitalism as such, but the author certainly put in the big C word as a symbol, not as the several destructive forces it actually stands for). In the end, when you’ve fully succumbed to those impulses of chaos and destruction, you may very well crown your achievements and turn “queer”. At this point, whether you do or you don’t, it doesn’t matter any more.

    But they key to all of this is “witchcraft”. It also points to the concept of non-material dimensions and energies that one dgeenerate might appeal to. Or get fully overwhelmed by. I’s say that graffito is more telling than meets the eye…

    1. I saw this graffito (nice use of the singular!) in a completely run-down house, and I wonder what came first: the condition of the house or this graffito. I think a genuinely degenerate woman would have scribbled those words onto the walls of this apartment building while it was still in reasonably good condition. You could then almost speak of a curse. No, I do not mean this literally, but I do think that such degenerates have an eye for decay, e.g. they see a building that is no longer properly maintained, and thus they start vandalizing it. Surely, this is also much more gratifying for them than smearing their confused messages onto a wall that has been thoroughly defaced already.
